Banda Do Senhor Santo Cristo of Toronto Logo

Founded in 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Banda do Senhor Santo Cristo of Toronto holds the distinction of being the first Azorean philharmonic marching band established in the city. For nearly 60 years, the band has served as a vital cultural cornerstone for the Portuguese-Canadian community, dedicated to preserving the rich musical traditions of the Azores.

The band was originally formed to accompany the first annual procession of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, a tradition brought to Toronto by Azorean immigrants. Since that first walk through the streets of Little Portugal, the band has grown into a premier cultural institution, known for its high standard of excellence and its iconic presence at religious festivals, civic parades, and community celebrations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

As an active member of ACAPO, the band continues to bridge generations—uniting veterans who have played for decades with young musicians learning the craft. Through the universal language of music, Banda do Senhor Santo Cristo remains a proud symbol of identity, faith, and the enduring spirit of the Portuguese diaspora in Canada.
