Founded in 1985 by a visionary group of twelve immigrants, Casa dos Açores do Ontário has evolved from a modest social club into a cornerstone of the Luso-Canadian community in Toronto. Originally established as the Casa dos Açores de Toronto, the organization was born out of a desire to provide a “home away from home” where Azoreans could gather to socialize, maintain their language, and share memories of their homeland. Over the decades, our mission has expanded from simple social gatherings to becoming a premier cultural hub dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the unique heritage of the nine islands of the Azores. In recognition of our growing influence across the province, we officially adopted our current name in 2006, reflecting our commitment to serving the entire Azorean-Canadian population of Ontario. Today, we operate out of our permanent headquarters in the heart of Toronto’s Little Portugal on College Street, where we serve as a bridge between the traditions of the Atlantic and the modern Canadian experience. Our work is centered on celebrating the vibrant customs of our ancestors, most notably through our annual Azorean Cultural Week and the traditional festivities of the Divine Holy Spirit. As a proud member of the World Council of Houses of the Azores, we offer more than just cultural events; we provide vital community support, citizenship assistance, and a welcoming space where the Portuguese language and Azorean identity can flourish for future generations. Whether through our educational programs or our community restaurant, we remain steadfast in our dedication to honoring our roots while fostering a strong, united community in Canada.
