Established: December 3, 1983 True to its name, Rancho Províncias e Ilhas de Portugal (Provinces and Islands of Portugal) is unique because it does not represent just one single region. Instead, it serves as a panoramic tribute to the entire country, showcasing the diverse music, dances, and costumes from every province and archipelago, including the Azores and Madeira. Founded in Hamilton over 40 years ago, the group was “baptized” by the Rancho de Oshawa and has since become a cornerstone of the Luso-Canadian community in the Golden Horseshoe. Their performances are a grand display of national unity, often beginning with the “Marcha da Boa Gente” (March of the Good People) as dancers enter holding the flags of each Portuguese region. As a non-profit organization driven by a dedicated group of volunteers and families, the group is famous for its vibrant community spirit and its annual summer picnic, which has become a staple event for hundreds of Portuguese-Canadians. By representing the whole of Portugal, they ensure that every member of the community—regardless of which island or village they hail from—can find a piece of home in their performance.
