Portuguese Ball Hockey Association Logo

The Portuguese Ball Hockey Association (PBHA) is a non-profit organization based in Toronto, Canada, dedicated to serving as Portugal’s ultimate role model for the sport of ball hockey. Built on passion, competitive spirit, community involvement, and national pride, the PBHA exists to elevate the game while representing Portugal with excellence on the international stage.

Officially recognized as the governing body for Portugal by the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation and the Federação Portuguesa de Hoquei, the PBHA works in collaboration with its partners to develop, cultivate, and manage ball hockey initiatives in Portugal and throughout Portuguese communities worldwide.

Our mission is simple yet ambitious:
To achieve international success through leadership, dedication, and hard work—while building a sustainable grassroots foundation for the future of the sport.

We are committed not only to fielding competitive national teams, but also to growing the game locally in Canada and in our native Portugal. Through community engagement, mentorship, and structured development pathways, we aim to strengthen both our organization and the athletes who proudly wear the Portuguese crest.

Our History: Founded in 2004, the PBHA quickly established itself as a competitive force on the world stage.

World Championship Results:
2005 – 4th Place – Pittsburgh, USA
2007 – 5th Place – Ratingen, Germany
2009 – 6th Place – Pilsen, Czech Republic
2011 – 5th Place – Bratislava, Slovakia
2013 – 4th Place – St. John’s, Newfoundland
2015 – 7th Place – Zug, Switzerland
2017 – World Championships – Pardubice, Czech Republic

Following 2017, the program faced challenges as several key leaders stepped away. Operations paused, but the vision never disappeared.

The Resurrection: In 2023, the PBHA was proudly revived with renewed leadership and purpose. The program returned to international competition in Switzerland, re-establishing Portugal in the Men’s Open division.

Growth accelerated quickly:
2024 – Launch of the Legends Team (45+), competing in Edmonton
2025 – Introduction of the Masters Team, competing in Bermuda and capturing Portugal’s first Bronze Medal at the Masters level

Today, the PBHA operates three national teams: Men’s Open (16+), Masters (35+) and Legends (45+).

Each team represents a different stage of athletic excellence, united under one crest and one mission.

Looking ahead: The future of the PBHA lies in grassroots development. Our next major objective is the creation of youth programs and national junior teams that will compete on the world stage and secure the long-term growth of ball hockey in Portugal.

By investing in young athletes, strengthening community partnerships, and continuing to compete with pride and integrity, the PBHA is building more than teams—we are building a legacy.
