Rancho Folclórico “As Tricanas” was founded in 1980 by a group of parents from the city of Toronto and gave its first performance on April 5 of the same year, choosing the Rancho Folclórico de Nazaré as its godparents.
In March 2023 (after the pandemic), in an effort to ensure that its rich folkloric traditions continue to be celebrated and shared, the current board members took over the leadership of Rancho Folclórico As Tricanas, relocating the group from Toronto to the Hamilton area.
The costumes represent agriculture, viticulture, and other traditional professions from the Beira Litoral province. They also highlight the distinctive styles of both the Tricana de Aveiro and the Tricana de Coimbra. This rich heritage can be seen not only in our costumes but also in the diversity of our songs. The province of Beira Litoral includes the districts of Aveiro and Coimbra, as well as some municipalities in the northern part of Leiria.
As Tricanas has performed in Portugal, the United States of America, and various locations throughout the province of Ontario, at community festivals, folkloric festivals, and even in the Portugal Day Parade in Toronto.
Rancho Folclórico As Tricanas proudly celebrates and shares the rich traditions of Beira Litoral through its costumes, dances, and songs. Through our performances, we keep these traditions alive for new generations and audiences everywhere.
