About the York University Lusophone Association (YULA) The York University Lusophone Association (YULA) is a student-run organization dedicated to uniting and celebrating the diverse Portuguese-speaking world at York University. Rather than focusing on a single country, YULA embraces the entire “Lusophone” identity, bringing together students with roots in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, and beyond. YULA serves as both a cultural hub and a supportive community for students on campus. Through social mixers, academic networking, and cultural celebrations, the association provides a space for members to practice the language, share traditions, and build lasting friendships. Whether hosting a casual café meetup or a large-scale cultural gala, YULA’s mission is to promote the richness of the Lusophone world while fostering a strong sense of belonging within the broader York University community.
